So here I am in sunny San Diego and I am house sitting for a family that decided to take a month long vacation. The house is right by the water and also has a pool. It has a tremendous view of the ocean and there is plenty of space inside, as well. The house has many large windows to take in the breath taking views. It is empty, however, and I am bored.
With the morning turning around, my cell phone rang. It was Bob. Bob was a longtime friend who was now enlisted in the military. He called to say that he had been recalled to duty. He was set to leave in a week. As a result, he was looking for something memorable to do. He asked me about my situation. I relayed to him my house sitting gig and the magnificent view which was getting old. In an instant, Bob came up with an idea to throw a going away party.
Bob wanted to invite a few of his military buddies as well and have a going away party. I told him I was not authorized to have any guests and my mandate was to do some routine household chores and simply enjoy their hospitality. I was going into my final year at the university and this was my last summer of freedom. However, I was not sure about this idea. Furthermore, I was already worried about some of the damage I had caused. I had spilled food on their rug and had to get a dry wet vacuum to clean up the mess.
Bob tried to reassure me that everything would be alright. He thought that having it outdoors would be ideal. There would be less traffic in the home and, therefore, less of a chance for any accident. Also, his friend would bring all the necessary drinks, foods, and disposable cups. My only job was to open the door. He even offered his services to clean up and brought up the possibility of arranging a portable space heater to be brought.

He was going to bring portable outdoor heaters. One of his buddies also had a portable fire pit which we could use. This all seemed like a good idea. Everything appeared to be falling into place. To further entice my agreement, Bob thought about charging a nominal fee to all guests for the use of the house. Given that we were going to be borrowing the premises for our purposes, it all seemed reasonable. This also provided us with a cushion in case there was damage or something needed replacement. Obviously, if everything went well, then I would be in a position to make some extra money. It was the prudent approach.
However, one thing I was concerned about was the noise and the neighbors. If the party was loud the neighbors might notice and possibly even notify the police. There was also the possibility that even if the authorities were not notified, the neighbors might tell the owner after the return. After considering the worse case scenario, I was willing to live with the risk, given that I had no plans on doing this type of thing ever again. One event we did not take into account was if one of our guests knew the owners. This is when it got interesting.
